PAUL Scott is expected to join Bury on a permanent deal this week.

Manager Graham Barrow is hoping to agree a deal with the 24-year-old centre-back before Saturday's Coca Cola League Two trip to Shrewsbury.

Scott is currently with the Shakers on a non-contract basis after being released by Huddersfield during the summer.

But he has impressed Barrow since being thrown into the side last month - and was one of the few Bury players who was on form last Saturday as Bury lost 1-0 at home to Lincoln.

Barrow said: "Something should be done with Paul this week.

"To be fair, he was one to come out of Saturday's game with credit and didn't put a foot wrong."

Barrow is hoping that Bury can recover the form which saw them score seven goals without conceding any as they won their two August Bank Holiday fixtures before losing to Lincoln.

Saturday's defeat was the Shakers most disappointing home performance of the campaign so far, with a 5-1 trouncing at Grimsby last month being the season's other low point. But Barrow said: "We'll bounce back just like we did after the Grimsby defeat.

"There's nothing between top and bottom in this division, as the results at the weekend showed."

David Nugent has added a fifth goal to his early-season tally after the Football League credited him with the Shakers' first goal against Burnley.

Nugent and Dwayne Mattis had both claimed the goal in Bury's 2-3 Carling Cup first round defeat at home to the Clarets last month.

But after consulting television replays, the Football League decided that the goal was scored by Nugent.

Goals in the first 10 minutes from Simon Whaley and Colin Kazim-Richards gave Bury's reserve side a 2-0 victory over Macclesfield Town yesterday.

Oldham have announced plans for a new £20million state-of-the-art stadium either at Boundary Park or an alternative site in town.

The Latics have already opened talks with the town council for a 20,000-seat stadium to share with rugby league side Oldham Roughyeds.

"There is no timescale at present and obviously we would need planning permission, but we got a very positive response to the ideas we put forward," co-owner and managing director Simon Corney told the club's official website.

"This is an ambitious scheme, but the town of Oldham deserves a new, exciting facility."

Corney added that he and American-based co-owners Simon Blitz and Danny Gazal would put in money of their own and also look to the private sector for funding.
