TWO years ago, when I retired, I made comment on pollution (Reader's Views) being created by standing traffic on Derby Street and St Helen's Road, Bolton.
Two years on I have returned for a holiday. Straight away I noticed the problem was worse.
Being a walker I was up early, down Morris Green Lane to traffic lights at St Helen's Road. All I could see was standing traffic.
I decided to see if I could find the end of the queue. Up St Helen's Road I went - there was standing traffic stationary up to Hulton Lane lights and beyond. Two-and-a-half miles later I found the end of the queue, at Atherton Railway Station.
Well done GMPTE - you have created a monster with your bus lanes.
In theory they may sound good, but in practice they do not work, as I found out.
Also, a parking problem has arisen on Derby Street, after the bus lane finishes at 6.30pm.
Despite prohibitory and mandatory road regulations, no one takes any notice. The worst area is the junction of View Street and Derby Street. Do the traffic wardens not work after 5pm? There is no excuse for blatant parkers on this road.
I sincerely hope thing have improved on my next visit.
