A MAN has appeared in court after a lorry lost control and crashed into the garden of a bungalow in Deane.
Alan Rogerson, aged 45, of Ashton Avenue, York, is charged with drink driving, aggravated taking of the vehicle without the owner's consent and having no insurance. He appeared before Bolton magistrates.
A large metal shipping container on land adjacent to the bungalow in Wigan Road allegedly took the full brunt of the impact and was pushed 60ft.
It came to a stop just inches from the house
An 18-year-old man from Bolton, a passenger in the lorry, suffered serious head injuries in the crash and spent several weeks at the Royal Preston Hospital.
The couple who live in the bungalow, Burt and Doreen Ellis, were in bed asleep at the time but escaped injury.
The case was adjourned until November 9 for committal proceedings to the crown court.
