PUPILS are enjoying trying out their new uniforms for size now that two Astley Bridge primary schools have become one.

High Lawn Primary School took over Oldhams School at the start of this term. And according to deputy head Mark Williams, High Lawn's expansion could not have gone more smoothly.

He said: "The Oldhams children have now become part of High Lawn School. They look fantastic in their new uniforms."

High Lawn is to operate on a split site basis for the time being, in the school's Holden Avenue building and the former Oldhams site in Selkirk Road. They will all be incorporated on to the Holden Avenue site once the accommodation is enlarged.

The ethos and curriculum of High Lawn is now being established across both schools, and three new members of staff have been recruited to work at the former Oldhams site.

Education bosses decided to close Oldhams after government inspectors found it was failing to provide an acceptable standard of education over a four year period, and because numbers had plummeted.

Ironically the school came out of special measures shortly before it closed.
