A CHORLEY mum was horrified when she bit into a snack and chewed on a shard of glass.
Sharon McGill, 24, pictured, believes the glass could have caused her a serious injury, and she is now seeking compensation and an apology from store bosses.
The healthcare assistant, from Coniston Road, Chorley, bought the £1.55 own-brand chicken and mayonnaise sandwich from the Tesco store in Foxhole Road on Saturday evening.
She ate almost the whole sandwich before biting into something sharp. She said: "I started spitting and pulled out a little piece of broken glass.
"Then I found another piece inside the rest of my sandwich.
"I could have already eaten some but I wouldn't have known it."
Sharon, who has two children, aged three and four, immediately returned to the store, but refused to hand over the sandwich because she feared the evidence would be lost if it was sent away for testing.
"I dread to think what would have happened if either of my children had a bite of the sandwich," she said. "I wasn't injured but I could so easily have been."
Store bosses have stressed that the incident appears to be isolated and have asked Mrs McGill to send the sandwich with its packaging to them for laboratory testing.
A spokesman said: "Incidents like this happen very rarely but we take them very seriously indeed.
"In order to get to the bottom of this we will have to conduct thorough testing of the product which means it must be sent away.
"We would urge Mrs McGill to send us the sandwich immediately."
