IN a nervy encounter Chorley overcame a determined and well drilled Carnforth side to record a 7-8 win in their opening North Lancs Division Two league match.
Chorley kicked possession away too often in the opening period and after 15 minutes an interception and a long run for the line saw Carnforth take the first try which was converted.
Chorley dug in for the rest of the half and were again looking in control when player-coach Ewan Martin hacked down the Carnforth inside-centre with a challenge that saw him sent to the sin-bin till half-time. The second half saw Chorley come out fighting but it was 20 minutes in before centre Pete Baxendale forced his way over for Chorley's first points.
With less than five minutes on the clock a penalyy wide on the touchline gave Chorley a lifeline and Sam Keane, so cool under pressure, got the three points to secure the win.
Chorley's 2nd XV recorded an impressive 26-17 win away to Ormskirk 3rd XV
