I FEEL that I must write to express my dismay at the proposed plans to redevelop the Market Hall and replace it with a Trafford Centre-type development.
Over many years I have chosen to shop in the Bolton area because of the wide variety of choice, individuality and competitive pricing. The stalls offer a very good service with helpful staff. There are several big stores that are represented and, together with the Market Hall and the Fish Market etc, the shopping cannot be bettered.
The bus service and the car parking are good and it is very rare that you cannot get car parking space.
I have always felt that you can buy anything in Bolton and have always - without exception - chosen to shop there instead of going into Manchester or the Trafford Centre (which incidentally I live just a mile away from). The shopper has the best of all worlds in Bolton, with individual shops and the markets with all the choices available and from time to time public events taking place in front of the lovely Town Hall building.
Please keep the Market Hall. Bolton does really need to keep its individuality - that is its charm.
