Nicky Hunt's potential as a future England international was endorsed this week when Sven Goran Eriksson sent his trusted coach, Sammy Lee, to check on the young Wanderer.
Lee, who had a brief spell with Phil Neal's Wanderers at the end of his playing days, spent time at the Euxton training headquarters, observing Sam Allardyce's coaching methods and the expertise of his famed backroom staff.
Hunt, a current U21 international, was also high on the agenda.
"We invited Sammy in to have a good look round," Allardyce said.
"It's good to have somebody of his status came in and build some communication between the FA and the clubs.
"We've got a very important future England full-back here in Nicky Hunt who they'll obviously want to keep tabs on.
"They'll want to keep a check on players like him and you can't knock that.
"Sammy going round the clubs will nullify some of the frustrations that exist between club football and international football."
