WESTHOUGHTON folk band The Houghton Weavers have been voted the most popular band for the fifth consecutive year by a country club in Shropshire.
The Weavers appeared at Lazy Acre country club in Shrewsbury - only to find out that they had been voted the best band by clubgoers.
They were presented with a prize by club owner Tony Best.
Weavers guitarist David Littler, said: "It was a great privilege to receive this award for the fifth time. It just goes to show that the Weavers format can entertain a variety of audiences."
The Weavers will appear in Bolton later this year. The first show will see them support Norman Collier at Bolton Albert Halls on October 16.
On December 11, they will appear with the Wingates Brass Band at Victoria Hall, Bolton, as part of their nationwide Christmas tour.
