AGE Concern is urging pensioners in Bolton to switch their energy provider to feel the benefit this winter.
The charity says now is the time for older residents to think about where they are getting their power from.
The organisation in Bolton is calling for pensioners to make the change while usage is still low so that they can obtain the optimum savings.
Residents are being advised to take their time and not make a snap decision, whatever the incentives being offered.
Agreements should be read carefully before they are signed and they should seek advice from energywatch, the industry watchdog, or Age Concern if they have any concerns.
Malcolm Strange, of Age Concern Bolton said: "We know that many people are planning to switch their energy provider this winter to get a better deal.
"But, to get the real benefits of cheaper gas and electricity as the cold weather sets in, it is best to act now.
"Don't wait for winter to hit before you think about switching."
