YOUR Paper Needs You -- for a special Bolton Evening News publication to mark the 60th anniversary of the end of the Second World War.

Our 164 page magazine will cover the build-up to the hostilities, the evacuation of Dunkirk, the Battle of Britain, the desert campaign, the home front, D-Day and victory and the fighting in the Far East.

We feel it is important to mark 60 years since the end of the war as it will be one of the last landmark anniversaries at which old soldiers will be able to remind people of the magnitude of what they did.

Thousands of men from the Bolton area lost their lives fighting Fascism, and families were left only with the memories of husbands, fathers, brothers and sons. Our special publication next year will feature a detailed breakdown of events that shaped the war as well as personal stories from those involved, who played a part on the home front or waited for their loved ones to return, and would like to talk about the war.

Arnhem veteran Ron Ashmore, who lives in Belmont, was a Sergeant in the 7th Battalion of the Kings Own Scottish Borders 1st Airborne Division.

Ron, now aged 90, said: "I came back home from the war and worked in the bleachworks.

"The War, Holland, was a very long time ago, but still sometimes, in the night, I think about it.

"It is important to mark the occasion."
