THE Library Theatre Company is to provide one captioned performance for every production, starting with the first show of the Autumn Season - Vincent in Brixton.
Captioned performances are in addition to the theatre's regular British Sign Language-interpreted performances, and it enables people from the deaf and hearing-impaired communities to enjoy the theatre experience.
Captioning is particularly useful for people whose hearing loss means that sound enhancement systems alone are not enough.
Trained captioners convert the spoken word into text, which is displayed on a caption unit to the audience.
As the captions roll, theatregoers can follow what it said, when it is said and by whom, and sound effects and off-stage noises are also included.
The first Captioned Performance is at 7.30 pm on Thursday, October 14 for Vincent in Brixton, Nicholas Wright's award-winning look at what might have happend during Vincent van Gogh's life in London. Bookings are on 0161 235 7110.
