AMIR Khan is set to be honoured by Bolton's Pakistani community in a special celebration this weekend.
More than 500 supporters and local officials will greet the Olympic boxer on Sunday at the Mecca Mosque in Great Lever .
Chaudry Salauddin, the Pakistan vice-consulate in Manchester, is expected to attend to pay tribute to Amir's silver medal success in Athens.
The 17-year-old boxer will be joined by his family and friends.
The event is being organised by Bolton's Pakistani and Muslim Organisation, which hopes his high profile in their community will help to encourage other youngsters to take up sports.
Sajid Malik, chairman of the group, said: "It is very important that we recognise Amir's achievements as a member of the Pakistani community in Bolton.
"Many members of that community went to support Amir in Athens and we have a duty to acknowledge his performance there, so we have decided to hold a celebration in his honour.
"Amir has had a massive impact on our community, and we are also hoping that other youngsters who are into sport can see how he has achieved so much and follow in his footsteps.
"We hope to work with representatives of the local authority to promote the sport and help others to follow Amir."
The organisers hope that representatives from Bolton Council will also attend the event, which begins at the mosque in Grecian Crescent at 2.30pm.
