A COMPANY has won a major waste processing contract with one of the UK's largest waste management companies.

Solids handling and waste processing equipment specialist Ajax Equipment, based in Milton Works on Mule Street, Bolton, will supply Grundon Waste Management Limited with a large diameter twin screw conditioner.

It will pre-treat unconditioned fly ash and lime waste materials ahead of landfill, in a contract worth over £40,000. The equipment will be based at Grundon's Bishops Cleeve site near Cheltenham, the largest air pollution control facility in the UK, which is being upgraded by Grundon to meet higher waste management standards.

The five metre long conditioner will take ash from burned waste and lime-filled residue, and mix it with water to produce a damp mixture which is transferred to landfill, where it solidifies, minimising the air pollution risk from the material.

The equipment can be operated by one person and will double the capacity of Grundon's Bishops Cleeve plant.

Stephen Roscoe, Grundon's technical director, said: "The new machine will double our capacity at the plant, as it will sit alongside another Ajax ash conditioner that has performed well for many years."

Mr Roscoe also cited Ajax's industry experience and technical knowldge, as well as competitive pricing, as decisive factors in the contract coming to Bolton.
