FARNWORTH Grammar School organised a 20-mile sponsored walk in May, 1981.
The 180 pupils who took part raised £1,400 towards the Stoke Mandeville spinal unit appeal, launched by television personality Jimmy Savile.
Cllr Joseph Wild, who was Mayor of Bolton and chairman of the school governors, made the cheque presentation that September.
The cheque was received by a Jimmy Savile official, Ivor Elmes, and his wife Hilda (both wearing Jim'll Fix It tops).
Pat Lingard, the senior mistress who organised the event, is on the right.
