DEVELOPERS have been given the green light to build 14 apartments on a derelict petrol station.

Hanover UK plan to create two blocks, two and three storeys high, at the site on Wigan Road.

A petition objecting to the scheme had been signed by 121 residents, many of them living on the Sutton Housing Trust development opposite the site.

But Cllr Nick Peel told Bolton Council's planning committee: "Some people sign petitions without even thinking about what they are signing.

"This is a derelict site which is good for development."

John Cassidy, general manager at Hanover UK, said: "This development will regenerate the area."
