A CHURCH has thanked offenders in Little Lever for raising more than £1,000 for the local community.
Six offenders carrying out Community Service orders spent six months washing cars for residents and visitors to St Matthew's Church, and improving the area and gardens around the church to raise the money.
The cash was donated to Little Lever Community Association by RevJohn Wiseman to benefit residents of the area.
The offenders volunteered to Rev Wiseman to carry out work at the church as part of their sentences.
Chairman of the Little lever Community Association Geoff Shepherd said: "We really appreciate the extra funding from this venture, and the scheme shows that these people are prepared to put something back into their community. We are very grateful for their efforts."
