TWO bogus workmen tried to con money from two elderly women in separate incidents in Little Hulton.

An 87-year-old was duped after the pair followed her home and offered to carry out maintenance work.

Shortly after the victim arrived at her house in Barry Crescent, Little Hulton, yestewrday at around 3pm, two men in a white van turned up.

They claimed there were due to carry out repair work and persuaded her to withdraw money from the bank and drove her to the Natwest in Walkden. While the men waited outside, the pensioner told the cashier who then notified the police. They disappeared by the time the officers arrived.

Shortly before, at around 2.45pm, an elderly woman opened the door of her house on Madamswood Road, to two men who claimed they were due to carry out guttering work.

They asked for a £250 deposit but when the woman asked which company they worked for, they refused to answer.

As she rang the council to find out if the two men were official workers, they fled along Madamswood Road.
