LANCASHIRE Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, which runs Chorley Hospital, has been rated one of the top-performers in a new good hospital guide for the over-50s.

Research looked at waiting times for hip operations, the percentage of inpatients undergoing their procedure within six months, the respect and dignity given to patients, whether the right amount of information was provided about conditions and mortality rates.

Both Chorley and Royal Preston Hospital scored well with a short waiting time for hip replacements (132 days) and lower than average mortality rate.

The trust received 88 per cent for respect and dignity in outpatients and a similar 85 per cent score for accident and emergency and 83 per cent of patients said they received the right amount of information about their condition.

And 92 per cent of inpatients underwent their procedure within six months.

Tony Curtis, Chief Executive, Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, said: "The trust prides itself on ensuring that patients are treated as we would wish our family and friends to be treated and as a top three star rated trust we have continued to make great strides in improving services and reducing waiting times at both hospitals."
