WHAT on earth is wrong with the people of Chorley?
Easy answer, lack of support for their own town.
You live here, why not spend your money here so the town can grow and prosper.
They complain about shops in the town centre being left vacant. What do they expect when half the time they are either shopping in Wigan, Preston or Bolton, spending their money when they could be spending it in Chorley helping to keep the shops open. (no wonder the big stores won't come to Chorley).
The town isn't supported enough by its own people.
They moan about parking and the cost of parking. Do they expect it to be free?
I was always taught nothing is free in this life, you have all got to pay your way. How many drive into town when they could walk there instead, meaning less fumes and better health.
If the people of Chorley supported their local town maybe we would get better shops and Market Street etc would be full again. It's up to you.
Then comes election time, 40, 50, 60 per cent turnout if you are lucky. What is wrong with 80, 90 per cent instead.
Once again, lack of support, can't be bothered they're all the same, but who's the first to moan? I bet it's those who voted.
Then we come to sport in Chorley. I don't think I'll go there, but what the hell, let's.
Last time we nearly lost Chorley Cricket Club, this time round it looks like we have lost Chorley Lynx. Why? Once again, lack of support.
Out of approximately 100,000 people in the Chorley area they maybe get crowds of 300-500 if they are lucky. No wonder we lost them.
Who will be next, Chorley Football Club who get crowds of 200-250? What is wrong with you? Do you not even like sport? So come on, get behind your local teams and shops before we end up like a ghost town.
Let's make Chorley a proud and well-supported town once again.
Fill the empty shops and sports grounds and give the neighbouring towns something to think about. Spend your money here, not somewhere else.
Mr Anthony Holden, Weldbank Lane, Chorley.
