BOXING was not the only activity on offer at Bolton Lads' Club in the 1920s and 30s.
A list reads: "Senior games room, junior games room, gymnasium, No 6 company Boys' Brigade, billiards, table tennis, house games, handicrafts class, library, boxing classes, ambulance class, saving club, football and cricket, mid-week bible class and Sunday brotherhood".
The object was to give underprivileged boys "the right start in life by surrounding them with a wholesome environment and to afford them an opportunity for social, moral, physical and spiritual advancement".
The picture shows the Bolton Lads' Club gymnastic team which won the Northern Counties Championship in 1928-29.
