BOXING hero Amir Khan has been honoured by the Pakistani community for his Olympic achievements.

The 17-year-old and his family listened to Manchester's Pakistan vice-consulate, Chaudry Salauddin, talk about Amir's silver medal and his influence on other Bolton youngsters.

Amir then took part in a question and answer session. Hundreds of people attended the event at the Mecca Mosque in Great Lever, which was organised by the Bolton Pakistan Muslim Organisation.

Organisation chairman Sajid Malik told the gathering: "Amir has brought the whole community together. At his town hall celebration, it was great to see people of all backgrounds cheering him on.

"There were riots in Oldham and Burnley just two years ago, so it is a great testament to the people of Bolton that we can live and work together. Amir is someone who can instil confidence."
