I GET sick and tired of that old chestnut "developers have been given the green light".
I realise that building on brownfield sites is the lesser of the two evils, but I am sure that developers go over the areas and build more than is necessary.
Even now, Church Street is often a nightmare, as is Manchester Road, where queues as far as the Metal Box is the norm. Where will all this extra traffic go?
It is no good saying that Westhoughton is in easy reach of the motorway, when ordinary existing roads are gridlocked, or will be more so.
Why should the council be concerned about losing our money on appeals, as it isn't their money? They have had plenty of practice anyway! Or could it be that they are letting developers walk over them by the usual methods?
When driving home, there is a dangerous corner where Waters Nook becomes Fairhaven Avenue. At that point there are some very old attractive cottages, which are a pleasure to look at, surrounded by giant hedgerows. Now, greedy developers are feasting their eyes on this area. Obviously I and my neighbours don't want this in our front yards. A friend mentioned a huge sum has been offered for a cottage to be replaced by several houses at daft prices.
People that "sell out" to developers are in actual fact colluding with them.
