CHORLEY manager John Hughes is desperate for a proven goalscorer after his slide slid to their seventh successive defeat on Monday night

Defeat at Kidsgrove on Monday night left the Magpies third from bottom in the Unibond Division One league table after just one victory in nine matches and in each of those games Chorley have been guilty of squandering numerous goal scoring chances.

The Chorley boss hopes to bring in more players before Saturday's FA Cup tie at Gateshead, including Harvest Osuya, a Nigerian who has experience of cup football in Africa and who celebrated his Chorley debut with a goal in the Reserves' 4-1 win at Guiseley on Saturday.

Paul Posteraro, a prolific scorer in Sunday football who was also in the Reserve side at the weekend, is another who will be considered in Hughes's squad for Gateshead.

Hughes said: "Obviously I am not happy with the results.

"We have played good football and defended well but we need to take our chances.

"This has brought frustration, with extra pressure coming back on the defence, and we have had players sent off.

"We should have won at Kidsgrove, we should have beaten the league leaders Ilkeston at Victory Park on Saturday, and we should have won some of the other matches. The current players have had their chance - now we need to think about bringing some more new players in."

Former Rossendale striker Pete Corbino has also joined the Chorley ranks - and there may be a new goalkeeper signing, as a one-match ban rules John Gillies out of the Gateshead tie. He received a red card in the 3-1 defeat at Mossley two weeks ago.

Skipper Jason Jones was sent off in the Ilkeston match for a second yellow card offence, and Mattie Woods was given a red card in the dying minutes at Kidsgrove for a lunge.

Former Bury junior forward Luke Horrocks, ex-Atherton LR defender Ian Callaghan and Blackburn youngster Andy Haworth - not to be confused with former Nelson midfielder Andy Howarth, who played in pre-season games - figured in the Kidsgrove game.

Callaghan played the whole 90 minutes and the other two came on as subs.

Chorley have also signed former Bamber Bridge and Great Harwood full-back James Coonan, who played against Oakland in the summer.

Chorley's reserve side enjoyed a 4-1 win at Guiseley on Saturday with goals from Neville Nelson, Harvest Osuya, Paul Nelson and Tim Greensill. They will be at home to Altrincham Reserves on Saturday.
