THE weather was far from in keeping with the title of the event at Turton last Saturday when the final of the summer medal was held.
The blustery wind accompanied by periods of heavy drizzle meant that conditions were extremely difficult for competitors but the later players did have some respite when the rain stopped mid-afternoon.
It was no surprise that many of the leading scores came from this batch of players and also from the very early players who managed a few holes in the dry.
Mike Burtonwood, giving up two of his five handicap shots on the first hole, had the lowest gross score but was beaten overall by Paul Wallwork, who has reached the final of the matchplay competition, and eventual winner Jeff Price. Jeff's card was a model of consistency especially on the inward nine with a string of fours.
Summer medal final: 65 J Price, 67 P Wallwork. 68 M Burtonwood; FJ Edwards; D Edginton. 69 C Ryan; A Re; P.Southworth; R Duckworth.
