HERONBROOK Fisheries in Staffordshire has changed almost out of recognition over the last three years.

What once was a little known fishing venue with two waters and a small car park has now become a thriving, bustling area with a breakfast bar, lodge house, toilet facilities and a laberynth of canals and lakes that seem to have no beginning or end.

Lord Nelson AC fished an aggregate match at the venue, and despite being back to back with another club match, almost all enjoyed good sport.

None better than Graham Carter, who took full advantage of his end peg draw.

Switching between worm and cat meat on the hook, the Radcliffe angler lost more carp than he landed, but those that did make it to his keep-net were good enough to win the match turning the scales to 53lbs-8ozs.

New member Paul Dyke also got among the bigger carp, and his haul of 45lbs-8ozs made second place. Not far behind was Martin Owen, who made third with a mixed bag for 44lbs-0ozs. Paul Sharples was fourth with small carp for 36lbs-3ozs. The minor places went to Tony Carter and Martin Stevens.

Canal pegs are let out

THE angling operators of the Leeds-Liverpool Canal at Feniscowles are letting out their 35-peg stretch for matches.

Good sport has been enjoyed over the summer months on the water with roach, skimmers and perch being caught in good numbers.

Alan gets the top weight

DEANE Anglers fished a match on Walkden's Boatshed Reservoir and although bloodworm was banned, anglers still caught in quantity.

Alan Munroe was kept busy taking small carp and silver fish on caster, and at the end his 24lbs-13ozs bag was the top weight.

Gordon Shorrocks was second with 24lbs-15ozs. Third was Granville Bailey, 11-lbs-15ozs and fourth Ray Shorrocks, 11lbs-2ozs.
