LEIGH Centurions are being linked with a possible move for Castleford's former Kiwi international forward Michael Smith for next season.
But because Leigh won't know which division they will be playing in until after the Grand Final on October 10, they could find themselves losing out to St Helens who are also showing an interest.
Leigh coach Darren Abram has spoken to the player's Australian agent but knows he is at disadvantage until after the Grand Final.
Abram already has one eye on next season and is thought to be keen to line up a permanent deal for Ben Cooper who has been on loan from Huddersfield Giants.
St Helens skipper Chirs Joynt, who is likely to leave Knowsley Road soon, is another linked with the Centurions should they make it through to Super League.
