Bury v Macclesfield by Phil Thorp
CHRIS Porter will miss Bury's League Two match against Macclesfield Saturday after the club failed to get a red card rescinded.
The Shakers striker was sent off during Tuesday night's 3-1 LDV Vans Trophy defeat at Stockport after picking up a second booking for deliberate handball.
Bury manager Graham Barrow, who was dismissed from the dug out at Edgeley Park for disputing the decision, was convinced of Porter's innocence after watching the incident again on video.
But the Shakers' appeal was unsuccessful, and Porter will serve a one-match ban tomorrow.
Paul Scott will also be suspended after he was dismissed against Stockport for foul and abusive language -- a decision which the Shakers have not contested. Jon Newby and Danny Swailes are likely to be straight replacements.
Barrow said: "After watching the game on video, it's clear that there's no way Chris's handball was deliberate.
"We asked the referee to look at it again, because we didn't want the lad to be suspended.
"I didn't even think he deserved his first booking, but Scotty's was a stupid one to pick up."
Barrow has praised the club's fans for their continued support throughout a miserable September, during which the club failed to win a game, losing four out of five.
He said: "Our supporters have been great both home and away and were superb again at Stockport on Tuesday night.
"They have been behind the team all the way, and that's very important with young players in the side.
"We haven't heard any negativity, and I think they realise we just aren't getting the rub of the green at the moment."
