A BRAZILIAN biker, a Dutch hitchhiker and a hairdresser have invaded historic Hall i'th' Wood museum.

Visitors to the former home of Samuel Crompton will find them sitting around the Tudor dining table eating a tasty meal - of paper.

The wacky range of life-size cardboard characters has been created by Year 11 pupils from Harper Green Secondary School, who worked with artist Philip Cox.

Harper Green assistant head of art Wendy Rowberry said that the characters were created by art students who gave them personalities.

The figures included former Bolton Wanderers player Simon Charlton, and a figure of a model clad in a designer shirt.

Pupil Michael Armstrong, aged 15, said: "My figure is meant to be a hiker from Holland, called Fritz. I have also made a hat and I plan to make a map case or binoculars to go around his neck."

Anne-Marie Entwistle, aged 15, said: "I've made a hairdresser, which is why she's got highlights."

Pupils even made paper sandwiches for their "people" to eat.

Liz Shaw, house manager at Hall 'i'th Wood, said: "The figures really make the dining room come alive.

"The expressions on the characters' faces are brilliant and they have been so well made."

The artwork will be on display at Hall i'th' Wood until Sunday, October 17, which coincides with the museum's family weekend on October 16 and 17 when special activities will take place.
