I SYMPATHISE with the parents of Amicie and understand how they must feel following this tragic accident.
However, a knee-jerk reaction to call for all drivers over 70 to retake a driving test, although backed by MPs, is impractical.
Another report in the same issue of Bolton Evening News relates to a bus driver of 66 having been charged in connection with the death of a child. Should the age for the proposed retest therefore include all drivers over 60?
I agree that drivers over 70 should undergo an annually medical examination.
I have been informed that, statistically, older drivers cause fewer accidents than younger ones.
Therefore, I suggest that all drivers convicted of a serious traffic offence must retake and pass a driving test before being allowed to drive again.
This retest should include anyone banned from driving.
