A 20-year-old man was robbed as he made his way home from a night out in Atherton.
He was walking along Leigh Road at around 3am on Sunday when he heard some men shouting at him close to the junction with Murray Street.
The victim turned round and saw a gang of up to seven men starting to chase after him.
They caught hold of him, punched him in the face and knocked him to the ground.
The men then grabbed a mobile phone and some cash from the victim's pockets
before kicking him and running away.
The gang were all described as white and aged around 20. One was wearing a
distinctive sovereign ring on his right hand.
Anyone who witnessed the attack or has any information about the offenders
is asked to contact Leigh CID on 0161 856 7248 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
