A CHARITY auction selling a host of fabulous prizes is being organised to help pay for an operation for a seriously ill Bolton woman.
Friends and family of 26-year-old cancer victim Gemma Feeney are holding an auction selling items ranging from a fitted bedroom to a Michael Schumacher signed Grand Prix shirt on October 16 at the Beaumont Arms pub, Armadale Road, Ladybridge.
Gemma, who lives in Deane, needs to raise £25,000 to pay for a procedure known as Cyberknife Surgery, only available in America, to remove two tumours on her spine.
Her sister Sarah Ogle said: "We are auctioning some really fantastic prizes and hoping as many people as possible can come and help raise money."
Lots up for auction on the night include a David Beckham England signed shirt, Michael Schumacher signed Grand Prix shirt, and a Wayne Rooney signed picture.
Since Gemma's plight was publicised she had been inundated with messages of support and offers of help.
The auction prizes have been donated by family, friends and from people who have read about Gemma in newspaper articles and have been moved by her story.
Recently, a sell out amateur boxing night was held to raise money for Gemma at the Albert Halls, which was attended by boxing superstar Steve Collins.
The former middleweight champion of the world spoke of his admiration for Gemma's courage and fighting spirit. More fundraising events are planned. On the day following the auction a treasure hunt is being organised for parents and children.
Gemma has already had to have surgery before. In May, 2002 she had to have an operation to remove a tumour on her brain. Earlier this year, doctors at The Christie Hospital discovered the cancer had returned on her spine. Gemma will now have to endure several months of chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
