Turton tops after hard fought win
TURTON moved three points clear at the top of Division One of the BSF over 35s after a hard-fought and tight 1-0 victory over new boys Littleborough.
Elton Vale are their closest pursuers after a good 4-1 home win over Hare Athletic and Dobbies' A season finally got going with a 6-1 drubbing of the B team.
Garswood Utd are close on the leaders' heels after Alan Clarke came off the bench to score two quick goals to secure a 3-1 win over the Fox & Stork. The Cross Keys came out top of a tight game by beating Colliers Rest 3-2 at home.
In Division Two, Dobbies C took over at the top after beating the leaders Ainsworth Fossils 3-1 at home and Ainsworth now drop to third spot. Newmarket moved into second spot after beating local rivals Daten AFC 5-3 and Park Wanderers are a close fourth after beating Old Smithillians 3-1 at home.
The Bay Mare Strollers were on duty in the Lancashire Trophy and they exited at the second round after losing 7-0 to open age team Bellingham from Wigan. They held their own for the first half and were only trailing 1-0 at half time, but the young legs showed late on as Bellingham took control.
Horwich Town moved to the top of Division Three, making it four wins on the trot after thrashing the Cattle Market 7-2, with two goals each for Cresswell and Flatters. The Plough remain second, despite losing 3-1 to Lever Bridge, who move into third spot.
Bolton Wyresdale are fourth after losing a tight game 4-3 to Walkden Wrecks and even a rare Aamar Ahmed hat-trick could not save them from defeat. Breightmet Utd had a narrow 1-0 home win over the Fir Tree and the Quadrant won the battle of the bottom two by beating the Bowling Green 3-1.
