KIND-hearted Bolton people are helping to bring smiles to the faces of deprived Romanian children.

Kath and Dave Richardson's Good News for Romania Charity aims to help youngsters in the Romanian town of Barlad enjoy a very happy Christmas.

The couple has appealed to Bolton Evening News readers for help - and the response has been great.

Money, new clothes and shoes, toys, sweets and chocolates have been donated - some provided by students at Canon Slade School.

One woman has made material bags for the children to keep their personal things in and has sewn each child's name on their own bag.

It is also hoped that a quiz night, at the Jolly Crofters pub in Chorley Old Road, on Monday, October 18, at 9.30pm will help boost the fund.

There is also a raffle with prizes including a signed Bolton Wanderers football.

Kath and Dave are holding a coffee morning at their home at 1, Wythburn Avenue, Bolton, on Saturday.

Kath said: "We have been really pleased by the response. A woman and her mum brought loads of things and then they re-appeared with even more. They also handed me a parcel, which was a box of chocolates, which they said was for us for all our hard work. It was so kind and thoughtful."
