THE family of a great grandmother who died in a road traffic accident have paid tribute to her on the day her funeral took place.

Phyllis Lever died on Tuesday last week after the motorised mobility vehicle she was travelling in collided with a Toyota Yaris on Moorside Road, Swinton.

Mrs Lever had gone to collect her pension when the accident happened at 10.45am.

Farnworth-born Mrs Lever was taken to Hope Hospital in Salford but later died from her injuries.

The driver of the Toyota Yaris, a 25-year-old from Swinton, was in shock after the accident.

Mrs Lever's family said that the 73-year-old, who had 18 grandchildren and one great granddaughter, would be greatly missed by all the family.

They said in a statement: "She was a generous lady who always had a gift for any child who visited her.

"Phyllis was always proud of her Farnworth roots and would often talk about watching fighter planes fly over during the war. She may well be remembered by people of Farnworth as one of twins.

"To say we are devastated by her death is an understatement. We are all heartbroken and everyone is stunned. We still expect the phone to ring and to hear Phyllis' voice."

The funeral of Mrs Lever took place on Wednesday at Agecroft Crematorium. Any donations can be sent to Marie Curie Breast Cancer Research.

Police have appealed for witnesses who saw the accident to come forward.

They should contact the Area 4 Road Policing Unit on 0161 856 7773 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
