CHORLEY'S cricket team may not have won a trophy on the pitch this season but at least the club has picked up some silverware.
The club won an 'Oscar' (Outstanding Service to Cricket award) from the English Cricket Board for the sterling work of volunteers in the past year in improving the club's facilities.
A group of committee members from the club received the award from England player Mark Butcher at a glittering celebration dinner at the Lord's cricket ground in London. Committee member Judith Whitmarsh said: "We were surprised and delighted to have won the award, out of all the clubs nominated from around the country.
"All the volunteers here have worked hard to make the ground look better and also improve the clubhouse itself. We have also organised various functions to raise funds for the club which will ultimately go towards helping the cricket team."
