OUR group -- Path & Pedal -- is engaged in a campaign to ensure all cycleways and pavements are free of glass, debris, potholes, raised grids or flags etc -- thus making these places safe for use, especially for the blind or poor sighted and buggy/wheelchair users.
The council has a duty to maintain these surfaces or order the water, gas and telephone bodies to do so. In our experience they respond quickly and efficiently to any complaints received.
Would anyone who spots potential pitfalls, rubbish, including glass fragments, or knows of a noisy manhole cover, please report it to: (sweeping up) Chorley Borough Council on 01257 515151; (potholes, grids etc) Lancs Highways Partnership 0845 0530011.
By so doing you will not only help the authorities in their job, but also save some poor unfortunate from a nasty accident.
P D Trapper, Secretary, Path & Pedal (NW), Bath Street, Southport.
