JUSSI Jaaskelainen's 93 match Premiership run came to an end on Saturday when he was forced to sit out Wanderers' Reebok clash with Aston Villa.

The Finland international learned his fate on Friday when a Football Association disciplinary committee rejected his appeal against the red card he received in the 1-1 draw at Middlesbrough.

Wanderers produced a DVD to back their argument that Jaaskelainen did not deny Boro striker Jimmy-Floyd Hasselbaink a goalscoring opportunity when he brought the Dutchman down on the edge of the penalty area in the 86th minute.

Sam Allardyce said the evidence his backroom team assembled showed that Ricardo Gardner was in a position to cover Hasselbaink's route to goal and was confident the FA would reduce the red card to a yellow.

The Wanderers' boss refused to comment on the appeal judgment but made it clear that Jaaskelainen would be sorely missed when he said: "Jussi's my number one and he doesn't miss a game. He'll be sorry to lose his record."

The rejection of the appeal left Jaaskelainen serving a one-match suspension, with immediate effect, leaving Allardyce to choose between veteran Kevin Poole -- at 41 the oldest registered player in the Premiership -- and Andy Oakes, the 27-year-old Derby County keeper, who has extended his initial three-month loan to the end of the season.

Oakes, who found himself behind Lee Camp and Lee Grant in the pecking order after a wrist injury cost him his first team place last season, is delighted. "It's great news and gives me a chance to play for a future at Bolton," he said.

"I'm also playing Reserve team football, something I was not guaranteed at Derby, and that puts me in the shop window."
