MORE than 75,000 small businesses in the North-west will get a letter in the post this week asking them to rethink how they cater for disabled people.
Maria Eagle, the Minister for Disabled People, will remind businesses about the Disability Discrimination Act and their legal responsibilities to disabled people - as well as the business benefits of doing so.
She said: "There are 1.4 million disabled people in the North-west who have a right to access services and spend their money as they choose.
"But all too often, disabled people come up against businesses that have not considered their needs and they take their custom elsewhere."
Since the Disability Discrimination Act came into force last October, anyone providing a service to the public must ensure it is accessible to the disabled.
