MOURNERS are being urged to wear Whites football shirts at the funeral of one of Bolton Wanderers' biggest fans.
Hundreds of supporters are expected to attend the funeral next Thursday of super fan commentator Dave Higson, whose catchphrase "Ding-Dong-Do" made him a legend among fans.
He died on Tuesday morning after collapsing on the driveway of his Morris Green home.
Mr Higson's wife Barbara tried to resuscitate him before paramedics arrived but he died soon afterwards at the Royal Bolton Hospital.
He died of a form of heart disease. Mr Higson had suffered from a stroke in 1992 but had battled back to fitness so he could get back to watching Bolton Wanderers.
Mr Higson, aged 58, provided the commentary on Bolton Wanderers videos for more than 10 years when the club was based at Burnden Park.
He also appeared on national television many times, including Fantasy Football with David Baddiel and Frank Skinner where his commentary skills were shared with the nation, making him a national hero.
Mrs Higson and the couple's two daughters, Fiona and Melissa, have invited people to wear football shirts for the funeral service.
The cortege will visit the Reebok Stadium on its way to the West Chapel at Overdale Crematorium, where the funeral service will begin at 10am.
The chapel can only accommodate 100 people. A loudspeaker will be in use for people outside.
