Australia Test centre Jamie Lyon revealed a hidden talent as he helped St Helens pull off the great escape in Friday nights unlikely 18-16 victory at Warrington.

Saints were trailing 16-4 with 10 minutes to go but scored three tries in a breathtaking six-minute burst to snatch a dramatic triumph at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.

Lyon has yet to open his try count in Super League but, switched to stand-off in the absence of playmaking trio Paul Sculthorpe, Sean Long and Jason Hooper, he produced some telling moments in the remarkable finale.

He set up a superb attacking position with a crucial 40-20 kick and, with time having run out on the clock, hoisted the perfect high kick for winger Darren Albert to work acting captain Keiron Cunningham over for the match-winning try.

"It was a fantastic option by Jamie to kick to our best catcher in Albert," said coach Ian Millward. "His kicking game was a bit of an eye-opener, it was quite outstanding."
