FANS queued on Saturday to snap up tickets for the Coldplay concerts being held at the Reebok Stadium this summer.
More than 60 people were waiting to buy their tickets when the box office opened at 8am.
The two shows at the 25,000 capacity stadium on July 4 and 5 are expected to be sell-outs.
But the number of people who turned up in person to buy the tickets was fewer than expected. Barriers were erected around the ticket office of the Middlebrook ground and around 20 stewards were drafted in to maintain order, but in the end they were not needed.
Internet and telephone sales are believed to have contributed to the slow turnout.
But fans who braved the winds and cold weather said it was worth it just to secure their ticket for what promises to be a memorable performance.
Dave Entwistle, aged 19, of Astley Bridge, said: "I was expecting to queue for hours so it was a nice surprise to be able to walk straight up and get my tickets. I can't wait."
Sharon Howarth, aged 34, of Horwich, said: "I am a huge Coldplay fan so it will be a dream come true to see them playing in Bolton."
Peter and Jane Morris, of Bromley Cross, said they had caught on to the band from music their daughter had played around the house.
Jane, aged 48, said: "Coldplay are the best band in the country. Bring it on!"
