WELL done, Bolton Council, for knocking yet another nail into the town centre's coffin.
A few more chain stores is just what we don't need, it really will turn Bolton into "clone town". Bolton town centre is not big enough to compete with the Trafford Centre, or Manchester city centre, which is where I would go if I was looking for chain stores.
All the coach parties from Wales and the Lake District will only make one more visit. They all have chain stores nearer than Bolton.
In Bury, the Westfield company wanted to move Bury Market so they could build more shops. Stallholders and townspeople got up a petition and Bury Council took note of what the people wanted, and the market is staying where it is.
Perhaps that is why Bury town centre is buzzing, while Bolton is dying on its feet - it's cheaper to park there too.
