A MAN died after falling under the wheels of a lorry in Boothstown.
Police invstigating the accident say the pedestrian was crossing Leigh Road, close to its junction with Sandringham Road, where passers-by saw him fall backwards under the wheels of the passing vehicle.
A police spokesman said the lorry was travelling south-west along the road when it moved into the road to overtake a vehicle parked on the pavement when the man fell into its path.
He became trapped under the wheels of the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.
Leigh Road was closed for seven hours while the accident investigation unit dealt with the incident.
