Former Hong Kong governor Chris Patten told business leaders at Greater Manchester Chamber's annual dinner that the University of Bolton will have a key role in making local companies competitive with the Far East.
He said the threat could only be met by ensuring the UK had a highly skilled workforce and he believed the university was ideally placed to head off the potential in-roads by India and China into Britain's economy.
