PUPILS poured plenty of effort into a competition to design a self-filling bucket.
Youngsters from Bolton took up the George Tomlinson Primary School science challenge in which the teams of four pupils representing Years 4 and 5 had an hour to plan, build and test their inventions.
Then it was down to the teachers to measure how much water was left in the buckets after 30 seconds.
The winners were from All Saints CE School, Devon Street, Farnworth, who created a bucket which filled itself and held 59ml of water after 30 seconds.
All pupils who participated in the challenge received a certificate.
A cheque for £100 was awarded to All Saints School and they will be the first school to be awarded the Primary Challenge Shield at a presentation on Friday at their school assembly.
