I have more on the recent item about the "Tin Trunk" cinema remembered by a former Boltonian in Harrogate.
Mr Derek Shepherd, of Grove Street, Bolton - a local tram expert - has written to Mrs D. Wilkinson with these memories:
"I was born in a house on Tonge Moor Road, near Castle Hill Methodist chapel, in 1930.
"My mother told the story of when the cinema burned down in 1930, she was pregnant but walked up the road to watch the fire.
"She also remembered going to watch the films there.
"It was on Tonge Moor Road, just near the boundary between Bolton and Turton, opposite Danesbury Road.
"It was built in 1899 or 1900 as a tram-shed for the new electric trams, but by 1910, it was no longer needed and was converted to a cinema.
"After it burned down the steel girder frames were left standing to rust away.
"During the war (about 1940) they were cut down for scrap.
"In the early 1950s, two bungalows were built on the site.
"The cobbled yard betweeen them and the row of terraced houses still shows where the tram tracks were.
"I understand that it was known as the 'Scopey', as the unmade road alongside is called Scope o' th' Lane."
