A FIRE at Adlington Community Centre last month, which left the building severely smoke damaged, has forced the postponement of a show due to take place there.

New roof tiles and curtains have been put up and electrical checks have been completed but the centre is not ready to stage the show by the St Paul's Players, which was due to open this week.

Following an emergency committee meeting last week, the decision was taken to postpone the production, "Show Stoppers", until June 20.

Marie Watson, vice president, said: "Following the fire at Adlington Community Centre, an enormous amount of work has been done by everybody involved to restore the centre to its former glory.

"However as a society, we have to be sure that everything is in place, for audience and performers alike, to produce a show up to our usual standard.

"Sadly, despite everybodys best efforts, we cannot guarantee that some aspects of the repairs will be completed in time for the show to go on as scheduled.

"However we are pleased to announce that, we have been able to reschedule Show Stoppers to June."

The show promises to be a mix of songs and dancing from West End musicals such as The Phantom of the Opera, Miss Saigon and Chicago.

Ticketholders are being offered either a full refund or a chance to transfer their ticket to the new date. For further inquiries contact the ticket hotline on 01257 4802026 or publicity officer on 01257 480336.

Meanwhile, Adlington music and Arts Society (AMAS) has pledged its support of the centre by staging its production of Annie there next month.
