BOLTON Mets suffered a 26-14 defeat away to West Bank Swan of Widnes on Saturday.
Even though the Mets started the game with only one sub, they dominated the opening quarter and loose forward Shane Cobbin was first on the score sheet for the Mets.
West Bank replied with a try then the Bolton winger Ross McGorman finished an excellent passing move, to score in the corner. Another try from the Swan saw the game evenly balanced at 10-10 at the break.
In the opening minutes of the second half, second rower Dave Edmondson had to be taken to hospital with a badly dislocated finger. Two more tries were scored, one from West Bank and one from Boltons scrum half Darryl Leach, who dived through a packed defence at the play the ball. The score was 16-14 to the Swan with only 10 minutes left.
By now the Mets had only 11 fit men left and it was inevitable that West Bank would score again.
The Widnes side ran in two late tries and the old saying "the final score line did not reflect the game" was never more poignant.
This was another gritty performance from the Mets with man of the match awards going to first Shane Cobbin and then Dave Cain and Darryl Leach.
