A BOOZE ban on Westhoughton's streets could be extended to curb a growing teenage drink problem in Daisy Hill.
Councillors fear an on-street drinking ban which came into force in Westhoughton town centre last year pushed the problem of young drinkers to the fringes of the town.
Members of Westhoughton Town Council have urged Bolton Town Hall to extend the ban and put an end to misery for residents.
Cllr Jim Gilfillan said: "We are seeing problems in some parts of the town centre and around St George's Avenue with kids getting hold of alcohol from the shops by one means or another. If the police have the power to take that from them it cuts out one of the main contributors to anti-social behaviour."
A ban on drinking in Westhoughton came into effect last year and similar bans followed in Horwich and Blackrod.
It gave police powers to confiscate any alcohol which they believe is going to be drunk in the zone.
Police have backed calls for a ban which would cover Daisy Hill town centre and the St George's Road area.
A spokesman said: "It would be the same as the bans which we have already got in Horwich, Blackrod and Westhoughton which have all been successful in that we now have the power to take alcohol off people if it is causing a problem."
